Lindsay Spaulding, Casting Producer for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has issued a casting call for a deserving family in Midland, TX to be the subject of a show for the next season of this ABC Emmy Award Winning series.
In her request, Ms. Spaulding writes:
We’re looking for inspirational members of the community who, for whatever reason, need a new home. While we know that there are so many families in need all over this country, we want to focus on people that have given back in some way despite their personal hardships. Some examples from past episodes include The Bliven family of Minot , ND who started a little league baseball program for children with special needs. And in Indiana , Shawna Farina heads up the local Relay For Life cancer walk for life in honor of her mother’s struggle with the disease and, in an ironic twist of fate, now battles breast cancer herself. Some of our episodes have focused on people who have been inspirational within their own family. Amy Hawkins of Hendersonville , TN was left paralyzed after she threw her body over her 2 sons as a tornado ripped apart their home. As you can see, our definition of deserving can be fairly broad.

The Wi-Fi Cafe, on the campus of Odessa College, hosts a poetry slam on the third Thursday of every month.
There is no cover to attend and donations are accepted. There are even prizes awarded!

Pacific Coast Jazz Recording Artist, Tom Braxton, will present the concert debut of his new CD, Endless Highway, on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Midland College.
The performance, hosted by Midland African American Roots Historical Cultural Arts Council, will be held in the Wagner Brown Auditorium of the Allison Fine Arts Building on the campus of Midland College beginning at 8 pm.
Presale tickets are available at BeDazzle, Super Mercado, LeDeboNa, Sam’s Bar-B-Que and Blessed Indulgence. Prices are $25 for Reserved Seating, $20 for General Admission and $15 for Student’s with a Fall 2009 Student ID.

The Annual Animal Art Show will be held Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at Hotel Paisano in Marfa Texas.
The show, benefiting Grand Companions Humane Society, will feature the works of over 22 artists and will include a silent auction as well as an address from guest speaker, Michael Arms, the ‘Adoption Guru’.

KMID ABC will be televising, via tape delay, Midland Christian’s Homecoming game versus Breckenridge this Friday, September 25th as well as their game against Fort Worth Southwest Christian on Friday November 6th.
Currently, the Midland Christian Booster Club is looking to raise $1,800 per game via advertising sponsors for these two games.

Midland Community Theatre will be hosting auditions for this year’s presentation of A Christmas Carol on October 3-5, 2009. Auditions will be held at the Cole Theatre, 2000 W. Wadley, in Midland.
Youth Auditions will be by appointment only on Saturday, October 3rd. Please note, youth must be 8 years old, at the time of Auditions, to be cast in the show.
Adult Auditions for be held on Sunday, October 4th and beginning at 6:30 pm on Monday, October 5th.

Benefitting Centers for Children and Familes, this educational event gives you the opportunity to see a nine-foot gator up close. In addition, there will be smaller gators available for the kiddie to handle and have their picture taken with, all while learning about these remarkable creatures.
The event will be held at the Midland County Horseshoe on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Gates open at 12:30 pm and the show starts at 1:30 pm.
