Open Mics, Poetry Slams and Karaoke Oh My!

There are several opportunities for you to show off your chops or skills by attending any of the number of local open mic nights or poetry slams.

Here is a run down of some of the area’s upcoming events.

Flying J Wranglers Christmas Special

flyingjsIn collaboration with the Globe Theatre, The Flying J Wranglers have hit the road for their annual Christmas tour!  Hailing from Flying J Ranch in Ruidoso (hence the name), the Wranglers put on a Western stage show and musical performance suitable for all ages.

Their performance will be one-night only on Tuesday, Dec 15th at the Globe Theatre.  Show starts at 7 PM.  For other dates in the surrounding West Texas area, including Lubbock and Abilene, click here.

MOSC Presents Holiday Pops at CAF

holidaypopsThe Midland-Odessa Symphony Chorale will be performing Holiday Pops at the C.A.F. Hangar on Saturday, December 5th.

There will be a FREE Kids’ Matinee, featuring a sing-a-long with Santa Claus, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. The evening concert will begin at 7 pm.

Alpine Artwalk 2009

artwalkTwo days of FREE activities, art and music, this year’s Artwalk is coming up this weekend (Nov 20 & 21), so you still have time to make last minute plans!

Featuring the work of  cowboy artist, Wayne Baize and the music and storytelling antics of Ray Wylie Hubbard, this year marks Artwalk’s 16th year.

Artwalk happens along the sidewalks and street corners of one of Alpine’s main thoroughfares, Holland Avenue.  Stroll in and out of local shops and galleries exploring all types of art and delightful creations.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Comes to Lubbock

tsoPerforming their original brand of rock opera, TSO, will be hit United Spirit Arena in Lubbock on Dec 10th.

Tickets range in price from $48-$52 and can be purchased at www.tsotickets.com.  This show is expected to sell out, as it is the first show of the tour, as well as the only show in the whole state that’s scheduled before Christmas.  The light and laser show alone make any TSO show worth the ticket!

Big Apple Deli Hosts Monthly Concert Series

badlogoAs part of its monthly concert series, Big Apple Deli, will be hosting Nashville recording artist, David Newbould on Tuesday, Nov 10th.  Concert begins at 7PM.  FREE to public.

Newbould’s music is frequently featured on network television shows, including “Criminal Minds”, “Party of Five”, “Joan of Arcadia”, “Dawson’s Creek”, “Threshold”, 7th Heaven and Lifetime’s “Monarch Cove”.  His song “Hold Tight, My Blood” was picked up for the trailer of the recently released “Streets of Blood”, a murder-mystery set in New Orleans, LA in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, starring Val Kilmer, ’50 Cent’ and Sharon Stone.

According to Sony Music, “David is a world class songwriter”.  His voice is compelling and his lyrics take you through travels of time, the bonds of family, the occasional mystery and both the joys and the hurts of love. He “has the audience hanging on every word and nuance”, said NYC freelance reviewer, Jerry Matthews.
