REO Speedwagon at MISD Education Foundation Event

reospeedwagonlogoREO Speedwagon will be performing a live concert at Midland’s Horseshoe Arena on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 8 pm.

The concert will benefit the Midland ISD Education Foundation’s Grants For Great Minds, which assists employees with the financial costs associated with career development and advanced education, as well as providing scholarship opportunities to students who wish to pursue teaching degrees.

General admission tickets are available for $35 at all Texas O’Reilly Auto Parts. Locations in Midland are 4216 W. Wadley, 1000 N. Midkiff and 2206 N. Big Spring. Locations in Odessa are 1820 E. 8th, 601 E. 42nd and 2011 NCR West.

General admission tickets purchased at the door will be $45.

Gator 911 – To Rescue & Preserve

Benefitting Centers for Children and Familes, this educational event gives you the opportunity to see a nine-foot gator up close. In addition, there will be smaller gators available for the kiddie to handle and have their picture taken with, all while learning about these remarkable creatures.

The event will be held at the Midland County Horseshoe on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Gates open at 12:30 pm and the show starts at 1:30 pm.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students, $25 for family and children under 6 get in free.

An Evening with Kirk Cameron

Cameron is best known as the loveable teen heartthrob ‘Mike Aaron Seaver’ from the award-winning series ‘Growing Pains’ and recently starred in the number one inspirational movie of 2008, ‘Fireproof’.

In addition to the evening with Kirk Cameron, there will be a dinner, raffle, silent auction and more.

Fall Football Frenzy at Hilton Midland Plaza

Hilton Midland Plaza, located at 117 W Wall in Midland, is rolling out a new program aimed at all those West Texas football fanatics.

On multiple screens throughout the hotel, including Mahogany Lounge, Ali Bubba’s Rooftop Patio as well as inside their restaruant, they will be showing all the college and pro action and will be offering drink specials to aid in your enjoyment (or disappointment) of your favorite team.

The fun starts Saturday, September 5th and happens every day/night their is a game and runs throughout the season beginning with the all the pre-game shows right through the last game of that day.

Thursdays are also ‘cooking’ on Ali Bubba’s Rooftop Patio with the Bubba Q BBQ happening, in addition to the games.

Buckshots Breast Cancer Benefit

Gather up your lawn chairs and ice down your beer for a night full of fun, fundraising and music at Buckshots on Saturday, August 29, 2009 beginning at 6 pm.

Local musicians scheduled to perform include Black Eye Shiner, Twisted Pistols, Treetop Fliers and Cory Yeager.

This is a BYOB event and the cost of admission is $15 at the gate.

Buckshots is located at 2600 FM 307 (Cloverdale Road) in Midland.

Legacy Harley Davidson Hosting Ride for a Cure

Legacy Harley Davidson will be hosting a ‘Ride for a Cure’, to benefit MDA, on Saturday, September 12, 2009 beginning at 10 am.

The event, sponsored by Legacy HOG Chapter #5120, is open to all makes and models of motorcycles and will begin and end at Legacy Harley Davidson with stops at Buffalo Wild Wings-Midland, Jessi K’s in Gardendale, The Buckhorn in Goldsmith and Hooters in Odessa.

Pre-registration for the ride (through September 11th) is $20 per person and $10 per passenger. On the day of the ride, registration is $25 per person and $10 per passenger.

In addition to the ride, there are several other activities scheduled including a Hooter’s Girls Bike Wash, Silent Auction, Band and Bike Show.

The event ends at 5 pm.

Suite Surrender at Midland Community Theatre

It’s 1942, and the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel is under siege as two of Hollywood’s biggest divas, who despise each other, vie for the same suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and one pampered little lap dog round out this comedy.

Suite Surrender, by Michael McKeever, will be playing in the Mabee Theatre II starting September 4 and running through September 26.

Recommended for those 12 and up due to language and adult situations.

SeptemberFest 2009

The 40th anniversary celebration of SeptemberFest is set to run September 12-13.  A Greek Mystique themed preview party kicking the weekend off will be held on Friday, September 11, at 7 pm.

SeptemberFest is produced with the aim of providing an exposition of high quality arts and crafts by national artists and craftspeople, and as a benefit to the Museum of the Southwest. In addition to a variety of artists’ booths, there will be food, entertainment and a Kinderfest area for the kiddos.

On Saturday, the event runs from 10 am to 7 pm. Sunday times are 12 noon to 5 pm.

Gate admission for Saturday and Sunday are as follows:

$5 adults
$3 ages 12 – 17
$1 ages 4 – 11
under 3 are free

Adults and kids in any uniform will get ½ off admission; bring in a church bulletin on Sunday and get ½ off admission.

Tickets for the Preview Party are available in advance for $75.00 or for $85.00 at the gate.

Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale’s Lone Star BBQ

The Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale will be hosting it’s Lone Star BBQ on September 3, 2009 at The Willows, beginning at 7 pm.

This casual event will feature a BBQ dinner, beer & wine, silent auction, and live music by instrumental ensembles of the Symphony & Chorale.
